How long you last in bed plays a major role in the quality of your sex life. There are some men who have trouble lasting more than a couple of minutes, and they suffer not only from embarrassment as a result of disappointing their sex partners but also from low self-esteem and self-worth for failing to perform satisfactorily.

What are the factors that affect a man’s sex drive?

Sex drive, also known as libido, is linked to brain health. If your brain is in good shape, you can enjoy a high sex drive, making orgasm happen without any issues.

Other factors that can affect your sex drive are:

  • Hormone levels in the body – If the testosterone levels in your body are normal, your libido should be fine.
  • Stress – If you are under constant stress, your body produces more cortisol, which results to lower testosterone levels and a decrease in libido.
  • Mental health – Having poor mental health is detrimental to your sexual function, so if you manifest symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other mental health problems, you should go see a mental health professional right away.

How sexually active are men at different points in their lives?

Men’s level of sexual activity varies throughout their lifetime. According to certain research studies, the following are what the usual male sexual activities are like per age group:

Puberty

During puberty, boys begin to experience a lot of changes in their bodies, including increase in height, deepening of the voice, growth of body hair, and enlargement of their genitals. In addition, their bodies start to produce more testosterone, causing an increase in libido. One study found that boys this age, on average, can achieve three orgasms per week but have trouble lasting long. It also showed that premature ejaculation is prevalent at this point in a man’s life.

20s to 30s

These years in a man’s life are often when they are the most sexually active. A lot of men reach the summit of their sexual health once they turn 20, and continue to sexually mature in the next decade so. Because they gain more sexual experiences, they have a better handle on their orgasms and are more likely to enjoy many satisfying and pleasurable moments in the bedroom.

40s to 50s

At this age, a lot of men’s libido start to decline. The reason for this is the decrease in their bodies’ testosterone levels, which comes naturally with aging. They start to have sex less frequently, and manifest symptoms of erectile dysfunction, such as having difficulty getting an erection or keeping an erection firm or long enough until everyone’s satisfied.

60s and older

Men who are in their 60s and older tend to be at greater risk of low libido, low testosterone levels, and erectile dysfunction, as well as high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and other diseases. While those that eat healthily and exercise regularly can still have a good quality of sex life, many end up with almost nothing and are lucky to achieve even one orgasm a week.

How long does the average man last in bed?

Through the years, there have been many studies conducted to shed some light on men’s sexual function and health.  There are some that focused on how long the average man lasts in bed.

In one study, around 500 couples were recruited and interviewed about their sexual encounters. They were asked to monitor their sexual intercourse using a diary and a timer. They were told to start the timer once the penis penetrated the vagina, and hit the stop button once the man ejaculated. After a month, their data were collected, and the findings were as follows:

how long can you last?
  • The average or median time before achieving orgasm was six minutes.
  • The majority of men were able to last between four minutes to 11 minutes.
  • There were a few that lasted longer than 21 minutes.
  • There were dozens that lasted four minutes or less.

According to sex therapists, the desirable or ideal time from vaginal penetration to orgasm is between seven and 13 minutes. If a sexual encounter lasts three to seven minutes, they consider it as just adequate. Anything under three minutes is too short, and anything that goes on for 15 to 30 minutes is already too long. A sexual encounter that lasts less than 60 seconds, they said, qualifies as premature ejaculation.

What should you do to last longer in bed?

Sex makes life fun and colorful, so you have to work hard to be able to boost your sex life. There are many different things you can do to be able to last longer in bed and satisfy your partner. Here are some suggestions for you to try:

1. A healthy diet

For hard and long-lasting erections, enough blood should be able to flow to your penis. For this to happen, your heart should be healthy enough for it to be able to carry out its job of circulating blood in your body. Foods that are loaded with essential vitamins and minerals should be added to your daily diet to improve your erectile health. The next time you go to a grocery store, make sure to get some spinach, ginger, bananas, peppers, watermelons, and onions.

2. Regular exercise

Exercise has a long list of health benefits that can enhance the quality of your life. It can help you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, strengthen your bones and muscles, keep your heart, lungs and other vital organs in great condition, boost your immune system, work your brain, and lower your risk of infections, disorders, and diseases. If you exercise on a regular basis, you can also increase the blood flow to your penis for better erections, increase your testosterone production for higher libido, and boost your stamina and endurance for improved experiences in bed.

3. Medical consultation

It is important that you regularly visit your doctor to undergo a medical exam for early detection of diseases. If the problem is detected early, the risk of severe symptoms or complications is lower.
