The penis is one of the most delicate parts of a man’s body. It can be hit by irritation, itchiness, redness, and others so easily if you do not take good care of it.

If you have a red or irritated penis, you not only have to deal with the discomforts, pains, and aches that come with it, but you also have a poor and disappointing sex life. Until you get to the root cause of it and receive the proper treatment, you will suffer.

The following are 5 common causes of penis redness and irritation in men:

Yeast Infection

The yeast known as Candida is a common inhabitant of the human body. It thrives in the dark, moist, and warm areas, most notably the genital area and the gastrointestinal tract. If your body’s bacterial flora is fine and balanced, these yeasts are effectively controlled.

However, if your body’s ecology is unhealthy and erratic, they can grow and spread in places they should not, and lead to an infection.

Usually, yeast infections are a result of using antibiotics, soaps with irritants, and tight-fitting underwear. They are also brought about by spending a lot of time in a hot and humid environment and being irresponsible in sex. In some cases, they can be triggered by the types of foods that you eat, too.

Sometimes, yeast infection cases in men can go away without being treated. However, the risk of foregoing proper treatment can be dangerous and harmful.

If not dealt with right away, male yeast infections can spread to the buttocks, inner things, and scrotum, and lead to more severe itching, burning, or irritation. And, even though the chances of transmitting it via sexual intercourse are low, limiting sexual contact and the use of condoms are still strongly recommended.

Simple yeast infections can be treated by antifungal ointment or creams that you may have to use for a few days to a week.

For more complicated cases, the treatment procedure typically involves antifungal tablets, ointments, and creams that have to be used for at least 14 days, or some stronger topical antifungal medication that must be taken for six or more weeks.

Pubic Lice

They are typically passed on from one person to another through sexual contact and are quite common among sexually active adults.

If you have them, you will experience itchiness in the groin, or see them crawling around your pubic area or their eggs stuck on your pubic hair. Sometimes, they can also get to your other body parts, such as beard, armpit, scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows, and mustache.

To get rid of them, you should use a lice-killing shampoo or lotion that you can purchase over-the-counter at drug stores and pharmacies.

First, you must wash your pubic area with clean water, and then follow the instructions on how to use the product on the label. After drying, make sure to wear clean underwear and clothes.

You are also advised to hot wash and dry your other clothes, bedding, linen, towels, and others to kill off lice that may have gotten to them.

Jock Itch

Caused by a fungus, jock itch is a common problem in men. The infection develops in areas that are constantly moist and warm, such as your inner thighs, anus, and groin.

It usually strikes guys who play sports or are physically active, are overweight, or sweat a lot. Its signs and symptoms include a raised, circular rash that is scaly and red, peeling or flaking of the skin, and burning and itchiness.

Jock itch can usually be treated by over-the-counter creams and lotions. However, if your symptoms continue to hound you despite all the medications, you have to see a doctor. You will need a stronger treatment solution to effectively eliminate the problem.

In the future, to prevent jock itch, you should not leave on wet underwear or bathing suit for an extended period of time, or share your damp clothes or towels with others.

You should also avoid wearing tight-fitting clothes, most especially underwear, and skin-to-skin contact with other people who have it.

Contact Dermatitis

Another common skin problem in men, contact dermatitis is characterized by the growth of a rash on reddened and inflamed skin. It causes itchiness and discomfort that can be alleviated by medications and better hygiene practices.

If your skin comes into contact with a substance that triggers irritation or allergies, such as oils, soap, nickel, perfumes, cleaning products, cosmetics, or poison ivy, you will see red rashes in the affected area, experience stinging or burning sensations, and might even get blisters.

To treat the problem, you should consult a doctor as soon as possible. Do not wait for the pain to get worse. The urge to scratch the affected area can get more intense as time passes, and that can lead to wounds, cuts, or open sores that are at very high risk of becoming infected.

Start using soaps, lotions, and other products that contain mild ingredients. Also, make sure to always dry yourself properly after bathing or washing to not

Razor Bumps and Ingrown Hair

ingrown hairShaving your genital region makes you prone to razor bumps and ingrown hair, which can be painful and discomforting.

If you cut your pubic hair while the shaft is dry, there will be a lot of tugging and pulling that will likely lead to a razor bump outbreak.

The tips of your pubic hair will also likely be cut and trimmed at an angle, giving the hair a much easier way to get back into your skin while it grows, resulting in ingrown hair.

To minimize razor bumps and ingrown hair, you should learn how to properly shave. Use excellent-quality blades that allow gentle strokes. After shaving, apply a moisturizing after-shave that can provide moisture to your skin, and protect against irritation, tightness, and dryness.
