Why Does Alcohol Cause Erectile Dysfunction?

Frequent use of alcohol is widely known to induce erectile dysfunction that marks interpersonal difficulty and distress. This gets worse if alcohol use becomes abuse.

In this article, I will share some reasons why alcohol causes erectile dysfunction. However, before that, let me first share a bit about erectile dysfunction.

Erectile Dysfunction

The inability of a man to keep an erection enough for sexual intercourse is known as Erectile Dysfunction (ED). Sometimes ED is called impotence. However, an occasional erectile dysfunction is common to all. In fact, most men experience it whenever they are in a stressful situation.

For a fact, erectile dysfunction occurring frequently is a sign of a health problem, and it requires treatment.  Besides, it is also a sign of the emotional difficulties that have to be addressed. Many men use Male UltraCore to prevent erectile dysfunction.

Symptoms of Erectile Dysfunction

For many men, it is easy to detect an erectile dysfunction. Below are some of the symptoms of ED:

•    Trouble with erection

•    Less sexual interest

•    Hard to maintain an erection during sex

There are other related disorders to erectile dysfunction. Some of these are:

•    Delayed ejaculation

•    Premature ejaculation

•    Orgasm is not achieved despite ample stimulation (anorgasmia)

If you’re experiencing these symptoms, consult your doctor to determine the necessary action and treatment.

 Causes of Erectile Dysfunction

There are plenty of reasons for erectile dysfunction, and these are both physical and emotional disorders.

•    Diabetes

•    Cardiovascular diseases

•    Penile Injury

•    Hypertension

•    Damage arising from surgery or cancer

•    Obesity

•    Anxiety

•    Stress

•    Drug abuse

•    Alcohol abuse

•    Smoking

•    Relationship problem

•    Hyperlipidemia

Remember that erectile dysfunction can be a result of any one of these factors like alcohol. Since alcohol use is common to men, I will discuss how alcohol causes erectile dysfunction.

How Alcohol Causes Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction can be caused by the depressant effect of alcohol, or diseases related to alcohol use because of the psychological factors.

It was mentioned in the Indian Journal of Psychiatry, from research conducted by Arackal and Benegal (2007), that sexual dysfunction is typical to patients that are alcohol dependent. Heavy drinking of alcohol increases the risk of ED even more.

In general, men diagnosed to have erectile dysfunction have a certain level of alcohol dependence. Developing sexual dysfunction or erectile dysfunction increases as the alcohol consumed increases. In fact, in the study that I mentioned, 72% of the respondents with a problem in sexual function are very dependent on alcohol. Along with it are other sexual problems such as premature ejaculation, low stamina, and low libido.

Below are ways in which alcohol ruins your sexual life:

Erectile Dysfunction

Based on research, consuming too much alcohol affects men’s brain and penis. In a specific study conducted at the University of Washington, men with moderate alcoholic influence can achieve erection quickly in contrast with men that are intoxicated by alcohol. Besides, some men do not experience erection after high alcohol consumption.

This issue results because the pre-sex boozing decreases the blood flow to the penis and reduces the concentration and intensity of getting an orgasm. Moreover, it can dampen the level of excitement to have sex.

Having an erectile dysfunction for a long-term also happens due to alcohol consumption. There is actually 60 to 70% chance of suffering from sexual problems, and typical of these are erectile dysfunction, the loss of desire for sex, and premature ejaculation.

Relationships

Based on the study of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, using alcohol beyond moderation is connected to relationship problems. These problems include economic insecurity, conflict, infidelity, divorce, and other stress-causing problem. Moreover, about 90% of sexual assaults are related to alcohol consumption.

Alcohol and Smoking

Many men drink alcohol while smoking. If you are a man that drinks alcohol while lighting up, your risk of experiencing erectile dysfunction increases even more. Men below 40 years of age are most likely to have erectile dysfunction caused by smoking and alcohol at the same time. Based on studies, men smoke a cigarette over ten times per day which increases the risk of erectile dysfunction.

Sexually Transmitted Disease

Based on studies, over 50% of sexual encounters that are unplanned, usually when intoxicated, are exposed to a sexually transmitted disease or STD. A high percentage of young adults are about seven times to get STD if unprotected during sexual intercourse.

Drink Less Alcohol

A little amount of alcohol can be tolerable. As the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC said, a moderate amount of alcohol is not over two drinks daily. However, taking alcohol as a daily habit is also not a good idea.

The feeling of relaxation after drinking alcohol is probably men’s favorite. Although several studies confirmed that alcohol, if consumed in moderation, is good for the heart and blood circulation, its effects on your sexual function is the opposite.

Drinking alcohol regularly is getting more toxins to poison your own body and ruin your sexual life.

If you are going to examine carefully, alcohol is a depressant and heavily consuming it dampens the mood and decreases sexual desire, making it difficult for men to succeed in achieving an erection or even to reach orgasm if they are under the influence.

If you are now experiencing a lack of erection or is afraid to experience it in the future, it is better to think and decide if letting go of alcohol is the best for your sexual life.
